There are indications that an application for eight rural workers’ cabins on a small rural-zoned property may be for supported accommodation in a farm-like setting.

An application has been lodged by Diraf Pty Ltd with the Sunshine Coast Council for eight rural workers’ cabins on a 10-hectare block at 85 Malones Road, Kiels Mountain.

The town planning report does not provide any details about the type of farm or the work to be carried out.

However, a hand-drawn map submitted with the application is labelled Lifestyle Support Working Farm Accommodation.

The map shows eight building platforms and an existing house along a driveway, areas for cattle and chickens, vegetable gardens, a flora and fauna area, and an existing pond.

The pond is within a flood line while the buildings, driveway, animal areas and vegetable garden are not.

Sunshine Coast News attempted to contact the director of Diraf, Farid Suleiman, but a family member said they did not wish to comment until the application was approved.

A town planning report by Gabion Consulting submitted with the application says the self-contained dwellings would have four bedrooms each.

Although that would total 32 bedrooms, the report says the maximum total accommodation capacity would be 20 people.

Under the Sunshine Coast Council’s planning scheme, rural workers’ accommodation for 20 people or less on rural properties is considered code assessable.

Code assessable development applications do not have to go through a public notification period.

The town planning report says the dwellings would be served by an on-site wastewater treatment system and rainwater tanks.

The report says the application is generally in compliance with the relevant requirements set down in the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014.

It says the proposed development is generally in line with the purpose and overall outcomes of the rural zone code, and it will not adversely impact on the adjoining properties, streetscape or the area in general.
