A bustling street corner near the beach has undergone a transformation.

The area around Lorraine Avenue at Marcoola has been turned into a shared zone, where locals and visitors can more safely stroll, chat and enjoy their surroundings.

Councillor Taylor Bunnag said the new streetscape was more than an upgrade.

“The project was designed by our community, for our community, with a vision to create a more pedestrian-friendly area that would enhance our quality of life,” he said.

“The existing coastal footpath has been renewed, providing a smooth and scenic route for walkers and joggers.

“The eastern side of the street has been formalised as a pedestrian walkway, adorned with multiple new gardens and trees that add a touch of greenery and that will help to cool the environment, making it a pleasant place to be even on the hottest days.

“Accessibility was a key focus of the project with the kerb and channel removed to create a seamless shared zone, ensuring that everyone, regardless of mobility, can navigate the area with ease.

“The streetscape works have not only enhanced the functionality and aesthetics of the area but have also created a space where our community can come together, celebrate and thrive.”

Car parking bays have been introduced and the existing car park has been relocated to a more convenient location, making it easier to access.

Footpaths, gardens and a car park are features of the makeover.

The project began in late November 2024 and was completed after the Christmas and New Year break.
