Two teenagers are safe and sound after being swept out to sea and sparking a search and rescue operation.
Police said the young males were swimming at Sunshine Beach when they encountered difficulties.
“Around 5.05pm, police received reports of two people struggling in the surf,” a spokesperson said.
“A search and rescue operation immediately commenced to locate the two missing swimmers, with a number of assets, including police, Rescue 511 helicopter and Surf Life Saving Queensland assisting with the search.”
Sunshine Coast Water Police Officer in Charge Sergeant Kyle Bates said one of the teenagers managed to swim to shore at Alexandria Bay while the other was rescued by jet ski further to the north, at about 5.50pm.
They were assessed by paramedics but were not required to go to hospital.
