UPDATED: Police have charged two people after a stolen vehicle was tracked on the Sunshine Coast.
At 7:30am yesterday, a Toyota Corolla allegedly stolen from Nambour the day before was observed travelling along the Bruce Highway in the area before it was tracked to a carpark near Poinciana Avenue at Tewantin.
Officers took a 24-year-old Nambour man and a 23-year-old Pimpama woman into custody nearby.
It is alleged that a firearm was located and seized during a subsequent search of the vehicle.
The man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property, possessing counterfeit money, unlawful possession of weapons, authority required to possess explosives.
He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
The woman is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on April 4 charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fraud.
EARLIER: Police have arrested two people after tracking an allegedly stolen car for at least 40km on the Sunshine Coast.
Police spotted the Toyota Corolla travelling on the Bruce Highway in the Nambour area about 7.30am on Thursday.
With the assistance of Polair, they tracked the vehicle to a shopping centre car park on Poinciana Avenue, Tewantin.
A man and a woman, who were allegedly the driver and passenger in the vehicle, were arrested at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing. No further details were available.
