A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following a crash on the Sunshine Motorway.

Police said emergency services were called to the eastbound lanes of the motorway, just west of the Kawana Way off-ramp at Sippy Downs, about 8.50am to a crash between a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a man, 22, from Nirimba, was taken by ambulance to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition with significant injuries.

The driver of the car, a woman, 35, from Maroochydore, was not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Anyone who witnessed or has vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it is urged to contact police.
