The Sunshine Coast’s first ever “rage room” is set to open later this month, offering people the chance to release their stress or just smash stuff for fun.

The Wreck Room is set to open on the Easter long weekend next to the Banana Bender Pub in the Aussie World precinct at Palmview.

Founder Jordan Small said the buzz around the venture was exciting, racking up almost 600,000 video views on social media and hitting an 85 per cent female engagement rate.

“We’re honestly blown away by the reaction,” he said.

“People are pumped – especially the ladies – and what we’re hearing again and again is how much they’re craving something like this: a space to let off steam, release some pressure or just have a laugh with their mates.”

The new attraction is located near Aussie World at Palmview.

Mr Small described it as an outlet to smash, scream and reset, saying “you suit up, grab a bat and unleash”.

“We all carry pressure – work, life, relationships – and sometimes you just need to swing a bat at a printer to feel human again,” he said.

“That’s what this is about. Controlled chaos and leave feeling better.”

The Wreck Room website says patrons can choose their weapon and smash items such as glass, electronics, plates, mugs and furniture.

Participants are given helmets, gloves, boots and coveralls, and go through a safety briefing.

The venue will offer regular smash packages as well as themed experiences, including Date Night Derby, for when you can’t agree on a movie; the Ex-Terminator, for when you’re ready to delete your ex; and UV Glow Smash, Australia’s first radioactive-style glow rage room.

Mr Small said the venue was well located with the theme park, hotel, paintball, bottle shop and food services nearby.

“It’s the perfect spot to blow off steam and then kick on,” he said.

“We picked this location because it’s already where people go to have fun.

Participants can go to town for fun or to release frustration.

“Now you can smash some things, hit the theme park and grab an ice cold beer.

“We’ve had people literally say ‘thank god, we don’t have to drive to Brisbane anymore’.”

The website says there is also a serious side to the venture.

“Your wellbeing is important and while smashing things can be great fun, professional support is always the best step when it comes to real mental health care,” it says.

“We take mental health very seriously and highly encourage anyone struggling with stress, anxiety or personal challenges to seek professional support.”

The Wreck Room will be open Thursday to Sunday from April 17. It is for people aged 16 and over. Bookings can be made at wreckroom.com.au.

If you need support, call the Beyond Blue support service on 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
