A man has suffered multiple injuries in a gyrocopter crash on K’gari.
The LifeFlight Sunshine Coast-based aeromedical crew was tasked to the western side of the island, near the Moon Point Campground, at 12.43pm on Friday.
The LifeFlight critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic worked with local QAS paramedics to treat the man for spinal, chest and limb injuries.
He was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Fraser Island Towing posted to social media on Saturday morning saying it had removed the wreckage.
“Clean-up of what remained of a gyrocopter that crashed yesterday at Moon Point,” it said.

“Luckily when it happened a Whalesong Cruise boat was only 50 metres away with their crew running in to rescue the pilot as it went up in flames.”
Whalesong Cruises owner Rebecca Greenshields yesterday posted about the incident.
“The gyrocopter crashed about 50m from where we were on the beach on our cruise. We were in the process of loading our guests back onto the boat to head back into the marina when the crash happened,” she said.
“Thankfully, we were still there. One of our deckhands quickly ran and dragged the victim (for lack of a better word) out of the gyrocopter to safety. We used a fire extinguisher from our boat to put out the flames.
“Big shoutout to our deckhand, Mark from Karma Dives, who didn’t hesitate to go help.
He is a hero as the outcome could’ve immediately been a lot worse if he wasn’t there to help!”
