Grab your popcorn, people,  because I would like to talk about movies. I miss going to the cinema. It was something my girlfriends and I would do every few months on a school night; meet for Mexican food and a margarita and go and watch a movie. It always made me smile.

Many of us have not gone to the movies since 2019. Here is a list of releases scheduled to come out in the next eight months, so you can plan your social life around the big screen. If you are anything like me, you find it fun having something wonderful to look forward to in life.

In June, Fast and the Furious 9 will race into the movies and I cannot wait for this next chapter in the saga that has endured for almost two decades and has earned more than $5 billion around the world. Sometimes we just need fast cars and bad storylines to really forget reality.

In July, Space Jam: A New Legacy hits the big screen and it stars Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. The original Space Jam was released 25 years ago and remains my husband’s and son’s favourite movie. So, this new sequel is bound to be a hit as it combines two very different worlds: professional basketball and Looney Tunes.

Later in the year, we will see Respect be released which is the story of Aretha Franklin played by Jennifer Hudson.  Cannot. Wait. For. This. One.

For the kids, there are sequels coming out of Boss Baby and The Addams Family. How great will it be to see Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley? I could sit in those reclining movie seats and hear the iconic tune to The Addams Family and leave right there and then a very happy woman.

In September, I am splurging on Gold Class and going to see the new Bond movie for sure. It is called No Time To Die and I am dying to see it. Bond. The best movie franchise ever, possibly only rivalled by Star Wars. Add King Richard, House of Gucci and the new Matrix movie to your list. And the big blockbuster release for Boxing Day is Sing 2.

Even if you are not a kid, Sing is a masterpiece to enjoy as it is full of extraordinary animation and talented singers. So perhaps it is time to support our local movies again, eat choc-tops and see our friends.
