A young Coolum man has come up with an ingenious device that prevents the hassle and frustration of your phone going flat while you’re on the go.

Despite having no background in technology, Bailey Page, 21, has created a cableless portable charger that simply slips onto the bottom of your iPhone.

The entrepreneur’s Zip Zap device (zip in your pocket, zap on the go) has received orders Australia-wide and interest from around the world.

Bailey said while it was not easy creating the product without much tech knowledge, his age was definitely an advantage.

“I’ve created something I know that both my friends and I would use, a product I wished I had when I was stranded on a night out with a dead phone and had no way of ordering an Uber home,” he said.

“Zip Zap is a small cableless portable charger that attaches directly to an iPhone, meaning it’s small enough to fit in your pocket or a bag and is so easy to use on the go.

“Teenagers are some of the biggest consumers of mobile phone activity being attached day and night, so when their phone goes flat and they’re out and partying, their Zip Zap device will recharge their phone without them carrying any extra cords, plug-ins, or heavy power banks”.

Only three years ago Bailey was attending his own Schoolies on the Gold Coast and he’s hoping his product will help put worried parents’ minds at ease as graduates embark on this year’s end-of-year celebrations.

“Hopefully heading into Schoolies Week across the country will ease anxiety for parents
knowing their teenagers can get in contact with them, friends, or emergency services, at all
times of the day and especially at night. It’s especially a safety tool to carry in your pocket when you’re out of your hotel room,” he said.

“For the students, Schoolies is all about having a great time and celebrating finishing 12 years of education, but our parents aren’t always having as much fun as we are,” he said.

Zip Zap can be charged using an Apple lightning cord and is compatible with Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Airpods devices.

Bailey said there was already big demand for an Android model and he has been working on a prototype to get it to market early next year.

“I’m really looking forward to announcing when the new model will be available, hopefully, it means next year a Zip Zap will be in the pocket of even more schoolies,” he said.
