A local comedy festival aims to not only deliver lots of laughs after several sombre COVID years, but also aims to draw tourists from Sydney and Brisbane.

The Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival is bringing an “all-star” lineup of nationally known comedians to the region next month.

“If you’re not going to laugh, you’re going to cry at this point … people are really really needing that grounding connection, the laughter, the arts – something at last that takes them out of their reality for a minute and just gives them a little reprieve,” Rebecca Chandler, the event’s executive producer, said.

Ivan Aristeguieta is among internationally-known comedians performing at the Sunshine Coast Comedy festival.

But it’s also hoped the event will also attract tourists from major cities.

“We’re hoping they’ll travel from Brisbane and Sydney up here, to come to the Sunshine Coast for the weekend,” Ms Chandler said.

“That’s really the goal for us, reinvigorating the community and helping the economy in our own way – the drive market and hopefully interstate tourists as well.

“They’re all national comedians with a pretty international reach … it’s a beautiful, fun, diverse lineup with something for everyone,” Ms Chandler explained.

The Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival will be held from November 10 to November 13.
