A man has died after his motorcycle crashed into a pole at Sunshine Beach on Sunday evening.

Police said they were patrolling the area after receiving reports of a motorcycle being ridden erratically.

They discovered the wreck and a 26-year-old man dead at the scene at about 7.15pm on Eenie Creek Road.

Initial investigations indicated that the motorcycle, driven by a man from Urangan in Hervey Bay, had sped off when the rider spotted a police vehicle.

The fatal accident is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any information or dashcam vision, to contact police.
